What are Dead Pixels?

A dead pixel is a pixel on your monitor that is not displaying the correct color. There are two main types: dead pixels (black dots that don't light up) and stuck pixels (pixels that are stuck on a particular color).

Types of Pixel Issues

  • Dead Pixels: Pixels that don't light up at all, appearing as black dots
  • Stuck Pixels: Pixels that are stuck on a color (usually red, green, or blue)
  • Hot Pixels: Pixels that randomly light up, often appearing as bright spots

How to Use This Test

  1. Click on a color to fill your entire screen with that color
  2. Carefully examine the screen for any pixels that don't match
  3. Look especially at the edges and corners of your monitor
  4. Test multiple colors to catch different types of pixel issues
  5. Press ESC to exit full-screen mode

What to Do If You Find Dead Pixels

  • Check Warranty: Most monitors have a warranty that covers dead pixels
  • Contact Manufacturer: Report the issue to the monitor manufacturer
  • Try Pixel Fixing: Some software can attempt to fix stuck pixels
  • Return or Replace: Many retailers will replace monitors with dead pixels
